Raffia madagascar
Unleashing economic opportunities for women in Madagascar
Raffia Madagascar is a boutique social enterprise in Madagascar that pays female artisans fair wages to create intricate, colorful and unique home decor items that are sold worldwide. Their unique business model teaches business and trade skills to women (often, single mothers), which provides them with stable incomes and growth opportunities.
I developed Raffia Madagascar’s visual identity from the ground up, taking inspiration from the landscape of Madagascar, hand painted signage, and the vibrancy of the women behind the beautiful products. Through several iterations and directions, I landed on a badge-shaped logo that suggests a stylish and hand-crafted air. I worked closely with Raffia Madagascar’s founder to build out a collection catalog that features hundreds of products and walks through the lengthy process of creating bespoke items from raffia and sisal fibers – all threaded together with pops of optimistic yellow. A new website that features a back-catalog of custom products and an easy shopping experience is coming soon!
